+About

Forgiveness is another name for freedom, and kindness is the best form of humanity. This challenge stems from an incredible act of kindness and compassion from the entire staff at Consolidated Assurance in Greenville, SC. They read the obituary of our 18-year-old daughter, Caroline. She lost her life due to an accidental overdose. This selfless group of people decided to take the task of extending forgiveness to heart. All of us can learn by their example. True strength begins with humility and mercy. The person you may need to forgive might be yourself.

This challenge is a reminder that life is but a vapor. It's like a mist that's here today and gone tomorrow. “The willingness to forgive is a sign of spiritual and emotional maturity. It is one of the great virtues to which we all should aspire. Imagine a world filled with individuals willing both to apologize and to accept an apology. Is there any problem that could not be solved among people who possessed the humility and largeness of spirit and soul to do either -- or both -- when needed?”

FORGIVENESS

Hating someone, holding an offense, or harboring a grudge causes many negative effects. When we don't forgive others, it brings about a bondage to our souls that could be compared to being enslaved or bound by a toxic addiction. Often this unforgiveness causes a bitterness that claims us from the inside out. It locks in sorrow, anger and strife; it locks out joy, love and connection. This bitterness is a result of a proud spirit that seeks to keep score and gain revenge for perceived and real wrongs. If we refuse to release our offended feelings, they will eventually control us. We will be in bondage to them as well as in the bondage of sin before God.

"We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies."
Martin Luther King, Jr
